To create change, you need to feel empowered.

Feeling powerless is normal. At some point, everyone in their life feels like this. It can be frustrating and may leave you feeling like you aren't able to create change. However, no matter what personal challenges you face, you can always make choices that give you back control.

Here are some quick reminders that you can be the Wavemaker you want to be and influence those around you to create a movement.

1. No one is perfect

We don't need a handful of people doing 'plastic free' or 100% sustainable living perfectly. We need millions doing it imperfectly.

Let's take the pressure of ourselves. For as long as we are taking steps to reduce our plastic footprint and live more sustainably, we are doing the right thing!

2. Get to know yourself better

When you feel that you lack power, your confidence and self-esteem can take a knock, too. Getting to know yourself better, and developing your self-awareness can help you to understand why you feel this way, and to take charge of your emotions and actions.

3.  We all hold a unique power

The climate crisis can seem overwhelming and sometimes impossible – but everyone has a power they can use to protect our blue planet.

As Wavemakers, we want to protect our Ocean. However, we sometimes may not know where to start. It's a great first step to identify what your power is and how you can use your unique skills to make a difference.

Our Deep Currents workshop empowers young people to recognise their skills and equip them with the tools they need to use their voice and talents to restore the health of the Ocean and our planet. Click here to find a workshop that suits you and start your empowerment journey.

If these dates don't work for you, not a problem - sign up to our Wavemaker newsletter to get the latest news on other upcoming Deep Currents workshops, how to use your influence to create change, career routes in the Green Economy and much more.
