World Ocean Day 2022 This World Ocean Day 2022 is highlighting the theme, Revitalisation: Collective Action for our Ocean. Somewhere along the way we became disconnected from our blue planet. However, working together is humanity’s superpower. And it remains our best tool for solving the world’s biggest problems, including climate change and protecting our Ocean. This World Ocean Day we want to rebuild this. If you want to help our Ocean, planet, and all the people who call it home, start with the personal change, but let it lead you toward collective action, and a wave of change. Head to our Instagram story and tell us what your pledge is to protect our Ocean. Or if you're new to this, what you plan on doing. Share your pledge here How can we Collectively take Action? Here are some Pledges you can make this World Ocean Day to get you started: Conserve Water: Use less water so excess runoff and wastewater will not flow into our Ocean. Reduce Pollutants: Choose nontoxic chemicals and dispose of herbicides, pesticides, and cleaning products properly. Reduce Waste: Cut down on what you throw away. 12.7 million tonnes of plastic enter our Ocean each year. By changing our relationship with single-use plastic will make a big impact. Reduce Vehicle Pollution: The marine ecosystem is fragile and susceptible to change, leaving it particularly vulnerable. As the climate warms, so does our Ocean. Use fuel efficient vehicles, take public transport where you can or try using a bike when popping out. Make Responsible Seafood Choices: Our Ocean is home to almost a million species and are a vital source of food and income for over 800 million people globally, yet fishing is the biggest threat to marine biodiversity. When responsibly sourced, seafood can be part of a diet high in human health benefits and low in environmental impacts. Use your voice: Start a social media channel! Use your voice to encourage others to join your mission. If your passion is, our Ocean, planet, or consumption choices - your voice is one of the most powerful tools we have. Make up your own. The most important thing is to use your own creativity, passion, skills to help create a future we want to live in together. Here are some pledge ideas for kids: Get your classmates involved: Count the amount of plastic you use everyday for two weeks. Commit as a class to use two less things with plastic in them. It can be anything! Cups, straws water bottles, hair clips, plastic pegs. Spread the word! Share this idea with other classrooms Get creative: Create a poster or video for World Ocean Day to raise awareness about plastics in the sea and share with your whole school on World Ocean Day Start an eco-committee in your school: Join other students who are as passionate as you are about the environment and together create real, actionable change in the world. Photograph the beauty of the Ocean: There are millions of amazing living creatures in the Ocean. Start a photo exhibition of the sea and what you love about it, with the aim of helping people fall back in love with the wonders of the Ocean. The more unique pledges the better! We want to hear them all. How else can you take action and support? If you want to take it one step further, you can donate to Ocean Generation and support our work to take Ocean action.
